|| outfit || • • • • • • • • • • Feet tapped softly on the brick path in the courtyard that headed around it and to the fountain in the center. Maddie walked to the fountain with her white messenger bag holding her art supplies and her camera. She sat down on the edge of the fountain and pulled out her large camera, clearing off the lense and bringing it to her eye. Maddie stood up on the edge of the fountain and pointed the camera toward the beautiful scene of the courtyard, snapping a few pictures then sitting back down.
She put her camera away and pulled out her sketch pad and a pencil. Maddie's picture started out as a fountain, but a bunch of small things started making their way into her art. Maddie started thinking about her adoptive parents, and how they were still barely passing by. The fact that they offered to get her a cell phone made her feel horrible. They wanted so much for Mads, and she didn't know how to say stop or no to them. She then wondered about her real parents, wondering what life would be like if they'd kept her.
A tear spotted on Maddie's drawing, and her pencil stopped moving. She shoved her stuff in her white messenger bag, placing it then on the ground. Maddie pulled her knees to her chest on the edge of the fountain, watching the water move around. She could see her reflection, so she splashed it away with one of her hands, wrapping her arms around her knees then. Maddie hated that she couldn't just be an elite like the rest of the people here. Maybe that would have made her feel better, or maybe it would have made things worse. She placed her chin on her knees, staring at the water all the while and seeing a few coins on the bottom of the fountain. 'It must be nice to have money to just throw away...' she thought silently to herself.

* stilll i hear you say you want to , ( END YOUR LIFE ) -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - There was always something in Emmett's mind that wasn't all that pleasant. Sometimes, or I should say, every once in a few while, the thoughts were good, but for the most part, he had nothing to be happy about. There was that fact that he was alive. Yes, that was something to be happy about. Sometimes, he wish he really could die, but he wasn't sure if that would do him much good, considering he was afraid of dealth. He had been, which was why he did everything that he did in his life.
Though, he still had to deal with the few things left behind, which were memories. And after all this time of stopping his mother from using the belt, he never stopped her screaming, as Emmett would never really hurt a single fly. Her screamings at him happened pretty much every night. It was a real treat when all she did was glare at him from across the dinner table. That's when she was home. God, it was a hard life for Emmett, and no one really questioned it, which he was most thankful at.
His speaking had it's issues, lets just say. He had a stammer. Or he had whatever it was when he paused before he spoke, as if his voice wasn't there. More then once, he was thinking of being a mute, but his teachers would always make him talk. He was friends with them, teacher's pet, as he never did anything stupid, socialize, or even make a peep in class. If all of his grades relied on answers being given out loud, he would surely fail.
Because of his talking, he never did talk, at all. He hated people, and people seemed to be alright that they hated him back. It didn't bother him, as not having a single friend didn't change his life in hell. Nothing could possibly bother him at his point.
He wanted to be by the courtyard at this time of day, as no one else was usually here. If they were, he would leave. Today, he didn't see anybody at the courtyard. What he didn't realize was that there was someone behind the fountain out of his eye. So, with that, he started walking, jumping when he saw someone else standing there.
Well, he might as well not have looked like an idiot, standing there with his mouth open. In addition, he probably looked like a jumpy guy. Maybe he was a jumpy guy when it came to suprirses. Emmett was not the biggest fan of suprirses. He attempted to speak, but nothing came out at first, until, ".....Sorry, I didn't know you were t-there." He said, only having one stutter on the word there. He always felt nervous when he talked, like he was going to screw up something. Stuff always came out that shouldn't, and it made him look like he needed medical attention.

|| outfit || • • • • • • • • • • Maddie must have been deep in thought, nothing could have broken her. Normally, she'd want to take a picture of her reflection or to splash it away. But, she didn't even notice it that much, she was picturing the fuzzy pictures of home, where she sat around cleaning and cooking, cooking and cleaning, doing homework, and being quiet. Sure, she had a television and cable, but Maddie just never felt like the work was done. She was a perfectionist, a sad trait that she hated and that caused some to think she has an OCD freak.
She had thought about leaving school one too many times, but then she'd have no way to get to work because her home was much too far in Melody Lake and she'd miss the art program here, as well as the perfect scenery. What could Maddie say, she was obsessed with her photography and drawing. That's the whole reason the girl was an Artsy. However, if anyone found out she was poor she'd probably just be considered a Wannabe or Loner, everyone leaving her to herself. Maddie kind of missed her public school friends. Well, those that she had. Maddie had never been popular, and it was nice to have more friends at MLP then at anywhere she'd been before. Born and raised in Minnesota, raised since she was around three in Melody Lake. She couldn't give it up.
That's when she heard a noise, almost falling into the fountain. Maddie straightened herself out, sitting with her feet safely on the ground and her hands holding the edge of where she sat. She looked to see a boy, who she definitely found attractive. He wasn't an Alpha... not a Celebrity.. Most definitely not a Charmer or Artsy.. Not that Maddie cared, she always wanted to punch whoever invented cliques. 'Yes, lets all form a group and hate everyone not in this group! We'll call is a clique!' How dumb. Maddie heard him speak and she looked at him again. She hadn't realized that she'd been spacing out. "No, no it's fine." Maddie had spoken quickly, more so than usual. "My name's Madeline. People usually call me Maddie, but I also go by Mads. Sorry, I must be talking really fast.. Well, anyway, what's your name? I don't believe we've met before.." she said. Maddie wanted to slap herself for being such a dork. But that was just how she was sometimes. Sadly.

* stilll i hear you say you want to , ( END YOUR LIFE ) -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - To much of his fear, she actually responded to him. He saw her head look up and was startled at what he was looking at now. She was very beautiful, and Emmett felt even more uncompfortable around pretty people. She had very light brown hair, almost in a blond color hanging on her shoulders. With that, she also had the most blue eyes he had ever seen on a girl. They were glistening through him, as if an x-ray. Her facial figure was like a rounded off square, or a big oval, making it like the perfect picture hanging on the wall.
He wasn't sure how to respond, or if to respond at all. If he was really smart, he would just run away, pretending she or he didn't say anything, but since his mind was all in a twist right now, he listened to her. The sweet velvit voice filled him almost at once, sending shivers up his back. Geez, it was so difficult to speak to people. He opened his mouth to say something, but she contiuned it a rather fast voice. It was actually really good to hear someone that wasn't blowing out his eardrums. The voice was so different from what he was normally hearing, he was distracted for a moment.
It was only a moment, for after that he opened his mouth again. At first, much like his regular stammer, nothing vocal came out. He closed his mouths, running his tounge once on his lips, as if something was on them, and tried again. This time, at least sound came out, "We haven't... I'm E-Emmett." He said, suprsised still it only came out as one stutter. Actually, that wasn't his real name, but no one but the teachers knew his real name. It was as a joke to his mother, and when she was really pissed from work, she called him that name.
His mind was telling him to go away now before he really made a fool of himself, but he still didn't budge. There must have been something wrong with him, that was more then what he was dealing with normally, with his constant stammer with a good stutter backing it up.

• • • • • • • • • • Maddie smiled when spoke. He was cute, and she'd always found stutters a bit cute. It either showed nervousness or it was just how some people talked. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Emmett," Maddie said. She thought about having to go back to work that night, working her usual shift from four to midnight, and really hoped that she'd get a break like the other night when Justin had showed and only work until seven or eight. If anyone knew that she was working there because she needed the money... Well, Maddie's rep as the cute, rich, artsy would be down the tubes and people would probably hate her just because she was on scholarship.
"So, Emmett, what grade are you in?" she asked with another smile. By now, Maddie had pulled her bag onto her lap and she was pulling out her pen. Maddie put her bag down and pulled the cap of the pen off with her teeth. She left the cap there as she drew on her hand. It was really just a bunch of squiggles, but Maddie continued to do it anyway. Out of boredom, Maddie closed the pen and put it down. Looking back at Emmett. Her eyes twinkled as she smiled at him sweetly.

* stilll i hear you say you want to , ( END YOUR LIFE ) -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - She seemed really friendly, however, to him as she started to make more movements then what he found her. She brought a backpack up to her lap, taking something out. Emmett took one step back, but stopped right there when he saw it was just a pen. It was nice to meet him? That was something that was new to his ears... wait, no, nevermind. He had heard those words in that order before...
But then he remembered the last time he heard that was in the sixth grade. It was coming from someone who looked completely different. The other person had missing teeth, cubby cheeck, round glasses, and a voice that made you want to throw something in her mouth to make her stop. But Emmett became friends with this girl, not really caring on looks, which was his own mistake, as she seemed to judge.
He figured that out too late, and it wasn't going to get any better. Actually, he took that back. It could get better, only because there was no place lower to go besides dealth. Emmett had worked too hard all his life to stay alive, so he wasn't going to ruin all of his hard work by a moment of his stupidity. Not that sometimes he didn't think about it, for he did, but in the end, he always talked himself out of such a thing.
Ah, talking about grades. Really, Emmett was suppose to be in his senior year, since he was the age of 17. It was the begginng of the school year and all of his classmates were sixteen. But, unfortuntatly, with the things happening at home and such, he had skipped a year when he was younger. The only thing that saved him all these years, was that he was naturally smart. But when he was younger, and didn't pay attention at all, he got held back. Most people thought he was a senior, so tecinally, he was suppose to be one.
Yay, another attempt of talking. Everyone said that pracitced made perfect, right? So maybe this little chat with a friendly person may be a good thing? Emmett had heard a lot of people around the school, but didn't know them personally. The only reason he had heard of Madeline, was that he was easdropping in two guys conversation. They talked about how hot she was and how they would have boosted reputation if they dated that rich girl. More then likely, if she was that person everyone said, then she wouldn't mention, wave, or speak to him in front of people, which was okay with him.
So, thinking of maybe it didn't matter if he did make a fool of himself, as he was probably never going to speak to her as a new friend again, he opened his mouth, "I"m a Junior." He told her, with complete shock there was no stutters in the sentence. He was tempted to smile, but since he didn't do so all too often, it always felt strange to. So instead, the corners of his mouth twitched, almost as he was about to smile, but never did. "W-what about you?" He asked, still with a stutter in his throat. Vicotory gone, but it was better then he regularlly did.

• • • • • • • • • • Maddie had never heard of Emmett in the few gossips she'd heard. She wasn't sure why, he was absolutely cute and seemed like he'd be pretty nice. Although, nice wasn't always how people got popular. Surprisingly, that had helped Maddie a little bit. She wasn't popular, but she had friends.
She listened when he said that he's a junior. He looked like a senior like her, but sometimes people looked older than they were. Emmett could be a junior, sure. "I'm a senior," she said with a soft smile. Maddie thought about her parents and how they'd offered to get her a cell phone. Sure, she'd always wanted one, but the girl's parents were really short on money. She was really worried about their economical stand.

* stilll i hear you say you want to , ( END YOUR LIFE ) -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - Oh wow, she was a senior. So he was his age or very close to his age. He wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not, but it did surprise him. He had met a couple of girls that were seniors, and they have been nightmares. It was rather they loved Emmett and flirted with him, but he didn't know what to do back, or they hated him for being such a loner. There was no way Emmett could stand up someone like... say... the head alpha, who he couldn't remember the name of.
He paused, wondering if it was a good idea that he told her what grade he was suppose to be in. It would make him look stupid, as that would have meant he was held back some year, but whatever it was. Truefully, he was sent here because he was smart. Hi smother didn't have any money! If she did, then she would spend it all on drugs and drinks anyways.
In the mist of his panic of deciding something so simple, he blurted, "I"m suppose to be a senior." Rather quickly he said it, but with amazment, without any stutters. There was a stammer in the beggining, but it all came out at once. Whenever he didn't stammer or stutter, he was always saying something that he didn't want to get out. So, now, blushing a very deep red, he shuffled his feet.
"Bad y-y-year." He said in a quieter tone, glancing to where she was. She looked rich, as most people here were very rich. Not a lot of them came on merly smarts. Most of them had the money for it, which was a good combination, and also made him feel a little like an outcast. Everyone was always texting on their phones, sending all kinds of stuff when he was phone-less. Like mentioned before, he had no money for it.
Everyone in his room also had laptops, which was a shame when he didn't even have a phone. That was another type that he didn't have. Recontly, he got some money for a little job that he did, but he spent that all on notebook paper. That and the outfit for the Mascarade ball. Don't ask why he was going. Maybe it was a chance that he could be someone else. He found that when people didn't know it was him behind the mask, he was very contrable. It would be interesting to see how it was going to turn out.

• • • • • • • • • • Maddie looked at how red he was turning at the fact that he was supposed to be a senior, then stuttering again after. She nodded softly. "Yeah, I almost had to retake a grade because I got super distracted by my art. I kind of forgot all about school, and almost had to retake a year. But I got my act together in the end, although I'm only here because this school has such a great art program," she explained with a soft shrug. It was a miracle that she was even there, a poor girl waiting tables just to get by without much help from her parents.
Most of the money she'd earned recently went to the beautiful dress and mask she'd gotten for the ball coming up. She didn't really know why she was going in the first place, she didn't really like being in big groups of people. Maddie would much rather be sitting in her dorm drawing or running around shooting pictures of the campus taking pictures of it while everyone was off having the times of their lives.
Maddie took a deep breath, glancing at the reflections in the water. Emmett really was good looking, though he didn't seem like he'd ever even want to be popular. He didn't look rich, like most people here. Even Maddie looked rich, even though she clearly wasn't. That was the one good thing about thrift stores, name brands were really cheap even there. And she loved that she could pull off rich even though the clothes were only a few dollars each.

* stilll i hear you say you want to , ( END YOUR LIFE ) -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - Well ther was something he was suprirsed to hear about her. What was another suprirse was that she just said it with a simple shrugg. Then again, who was Emmett going to tell? He didn't have any friends. Not even the little imaginary friends little children have or older insane people have. But the fact that he had no friends really didn't bother him all that much. He was perfectally happy with that, as poeople were dangerous animals. Since he had no friends, it was impossible for him to get hurt.
He should have figured she was an artsy person, at the fact that she started drawing on her hand with a marker not too long ago. There was a little blink of suprise, yet again, from him when she said the only reason she was here was because of her art. People could get in here dumb as a doornail if they had money... so it wouldn't be the only reason she got in, was it? Maybe it was. Who knew how the school systems worked? "I can tell that you r-really enjoy art." He said out loud with a small trying to be smile.
A little thought came to him if she was going to attend. It wasn't a big deal, as he woudn't reconize her anyways, but it was still a curious thought inside of his mind. Surely someone rich and pretty like her was very sociable with people. If she contiuned on to talk to Emmett, clearly she had to be sociable, for this would never really work otherwise.
He shook his head, only to realize he was getting contrable enough talking around her that his mind was wandering to his curiousity. When he was tense, his mind only focused on the things he hated, and curiousity would never come to him. But now that he was, he was letting his mind drift off, which was very usual for him. With that, he had to focus from not turning pink, as his face just recovered from last time it went pink.

• • • • • • • • • • Maddie nodded softly. "I love art," she confirmed. "It's like my life," she then added with a smile. She stared at the beautiful reflection again, not wanting to stare at him himself rudely. Maddie wondered if Emmett was going to the masquerade... So she decided she'd ask. "Are you going to the masquerade ball, Emmett?"
Fingers grazed over her reflection, splashing it away. She took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. Maddie bit her lower lip, staring at the water in silence for a bit before looking back up to Emmett.
((Ick, sorry that's horrible and short. I'm low on Maddie muse.))

* stilll i hear you say you want to , ( END YOUR LIFE ) -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - That was obvious, but he was glad she asked. Personally, he didn't find anything in art, but then again, he didn't find anything else all too amusing either. He never got the chance to brace in other sports and acitivties like everyone else did, nor did he want to. Emmett wasn't sociable, so it wouldn't be even close to a surprise that he didn't want to go into any activities such as art. "How long have you been in a-art?" He asked with curiousity. Oh, damn, one last at the end, but he had to say, the more he spent talking with her, the more easy it became to talk. If only it was like that with everyone.
Oh, she brought up the very subject that happened to be on his mind not too long ago. Of course, he probably wasn't going to say who he was, or it might blow his whole plan to see how social people act, but all the same. "I'm not entirely s-sure, but I believe so." He realized he was no longer stammering, but every once in a while stutters. It was getting eaiser and easier, as if he was meeting Vicotria all over again, except Maddie and Vick were two compeltely different people all around. At least, he seriously hoped so.
"I'm assuming that your attending as w-well." He told her out loud, blinking at his proper form of the questions. Thats what happened when he got confortable talking; he started talking like he was taught, and that was very proper. He learned from old movies that his mom had sitting around. When she was working at her jobs or out on the bar, he watched them, only to discover them being proper English movies. His favorite was A&E's version of Pride and Prejudice, just because it was so entertaining and long.
